Job Description

The Koch CFO organization's Investment team is seeking an Investment Accounting Manager to join the team. In this role, you will create value for the organization as a primary business partner supporting the respective investment teams in all finance, accounting, and financial reporting matters. The position will interact with business leaders and the Investments Controller to ensure investments are appropriately recorded under US GAAP and in line with underlying economic performance. We are seeking economic thinkers and highly motivated, self-driven individuals. The ideal candidate will also have experience with investment accounting and researching and documenting technical accounting points of view with a focus on continuous transformation; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management across capabilities; and an aptitude and desire for problem solving, adopting, and promoting the use of new technologies, learning new systems, and improving processes through automation. The team is located in the Wichita, KS headquarters.

What You Will Do

  • Ownership over the monthly accounting processes for a large portfolio of complex investment strategies
  • Analytically review and comprehend the monthly results, while proactively communicating any known or expected risks, significant transactions, or anomalies to management
  • Collaborate with the investment groups and our supporting third-party administrators to understand the investment strategies and validate that they are being accounted for accurately
  • Staying involved early on and throughout new investment onboarding, while understanding the terms of the investments, legal entity structure, tax and reporting implications, and evaluating the proper accounting treatment
  • Thoroughly researching and documenting technical accounting position papers for new and existing investment positions
  • Collaborate with, and provide ad hoc information/analysis to groups across the organization such as the investment teams, FP&A, treasury, tax, risk, and the relevant business leaders
  • Perform certain balance sheet reconciliations to adequately support transactions and account balances, and investigate and resolve any corrective action required
  • Review financial statements and other deliverables on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy and provide proper oversight
  • Work with external auditors and support annual audit process as needed
  • Seek and share knowledge, identify opportunities for process improvements and/or automation, challenge the status quo, and propose solutions
  • Advance the Principle-Based Management culture within the team by applying and reinforcing the company's Guiding Principles


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business-related field
  • 6+ years of experience in a professional Accounting, Audit, Financial Analysis, Investments, Trading, or similar role
  • Existing working knowledge or the ability to independently research and understand complex accounting transactions such as investments, derivatives, and VIE/consolidation analysis
  • Ability to conduct technical accounting research and adequately document positions in an organized, well thought out manner
  • Analytical thinking; capable of evaluating information and challenging appropriately, and identifying process improvement opportunities
  • Ability to effectively comprehend, communicate, and present financial concepts and investment transactions to various internal and external audiences
  • Collaboration mindset that seeks to build working relationships and bridge gaps between partners


What Will Put You Ahead

  • CGMA, CMA, CPA or Master Degree in Accounting
  • SAP, Infor, orother large ERP, integrated accounting system experience
  • OneStream, HFM, or other accounting consolidation reporting system experience
  • Experience with Excel macros, SQL/VBA, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx and/or other data manipulation and visualization tools
  • Previous Public Accounting or Large Company Corporate Accounting experience
